My Approach
The principles I use in my massage therapy work are the principles I live by: self-awareness in body and thoughts, presence, kindness toward ourselves and others, exploration and acceptance. I find the human body to be a fascinating, complex system that deserves daily care, love and attention in order to function optimally and carry each and every one of us through life. The powers of the human body to heal itself are amazing, and as a massage therapist, it is my goal to nurture and support the body in its healing process. I believe that touch is the most authentic form of human communication, with proven health-boosting benefits, and a massage is the ultimate experience in mindfulness, enhancing awareness of our "mind-body connection".
This connection between the physical body and the mind by way of the nervous system, is of great interest to me. I believe it is so important to understand this connection when one is working toward reaching personal health goals. I view the mind and body as one continuous feedback loop which affects how we operate and feel, physically, mentally and emotionally on a moment to moment basis. When our body is injured, feeling tension, or experiencing limitations, this impacts not only our activities but also our thoughts and feelings. Conversely, when our mind experiences stress, sadness, or conflict, this manifests in our body and tissues and can cause discomfort and pain. When we are injured in any overwhelming experience, powerful memories can be created and held in our bodies. Bodywork can help to release the tension and blockages caused by injury or trauma while enabling a great sense of body awareness which can have extraordinary benefits on overall health.
I always take an intuitive holistic approach to healing, building an integrated therapeutic plan for each client by examining the client’s whole story. This means, I look at the client’s physical state and their concerns, combined with their mental and emotional needs or struggles to develop the most beneficial treatment. It is important to learn about each client’s daily life and their daily habits, such as physical activity or exercise level, occupation, diet, daily routine, and their daily stressors and challenges. This information helps me to see the big picture, as it relates to these factor’s impact on the body, muscles and tissues therefore allowing me to give the body the proper support it needs to heal.
