How to take care of yourself during winter

During the winter season it is recommended to go to sleep early and to wake up with the sun. It is beneficial to be warmly dressed and to keep your feet and lower back warm. Massage your lower back often. Place your hands on your lower back, your Kidneys would like that!

Speaking about massage, in the winter it is great to massage your nose; use little pressure with your middle fingers on your nostrils and move your fingers up and down next to your nose.

Also you can massage your ears, there are many great pressure points in your ear area. Massage the bottom of your ear, take the earrings off, so your ear can have a rest. When you massage the bottom of your ear it helps in getting rid of a cold, sore throat or toothache.

If you already have a cold, massage gently your temples with circle movements, your eyebrows, your forehead or the area around the nose or tap on your chest on your Thymus. You can also massage your arms, where there are many acupressure points which can fight colds.

Be aware that a lot of food in winter is shipped over long distances from countries with different climates. Salads, fruits or vegetables you are eating in the winter may not have any vitamins or minerals anymore. Try to buy food in season from your local market. Leave light green veggies for spring and focus rather on dark green veggies. Avoid milk, asparagus, cheese, sugar and fried foods in the winter.

Say yes to cauliflower, brussels sprouts, fennel, horseradish, kohlrabi, parsnip, radish, cabbage, collard green, leek, ginger and more.

Make a lot of soups, they are great for winter ( broth-based soups are better for winter than cream-based soups). Drink ginger tea. Make bone broth at home.

In conclusion, instead of toxic medication for colds, let's try to take care of yourself naturally with a massage, cleansing yourself ( especially your sinuses with Neti Pots), eating good food and staying positive, sleeping enough and also lots of movement and exercise. Sounds easy?

Good luck! Have a beautiful Winter!
