The weather is warmer, the days are getting longer, flowers, fruits and vegetables emerge from the ground with a burst of life, trees being to grow buds and blossom. Green vegetables are starting to show up more and more at the farmer's market. The seasonal change is here, the nature is waking up after a winter sleep dressing itself in a beautiful green color. Green is a color of harmony and inner peace, great for relaxation and healing the nervous system. The energy everywhere is shifting and we too can harness the power of spring to slough off the old and usher in a new experience of well-being. Our bodies are changing too. Spring is the time to let go of the old, the time of cleansing, growth and renewal. In springtime you can clean your house, your computer, your garden, but spring cleaning starts from within you.

During winter your body received a lot of fatty foods and food relatively poor in vitamins. This could cause that you have inner heat and phlegm inside of you. It is recommended to detoxify the body by eating a lot of fresh green vegetables and to eat less meat.
My spring superhero has always been the nettle. Nettle contains vitamins A,C,K, and also several B vitamins. Minerals such as calcium, iron, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium and sodium. It has amino acids, polyphenols and beta-carotene.
It is know to treat arthritis (used since the ancient Egyptians), and muscle and joint pain. Nettles may reduce inflammation, prostate size, and may lower blood pressure. Nettles helps with kidney stones, anemia and so much more. Nettle tea can improve digestive health and help with skin irritation, fight infections, and boost prostate and kidney health.
Addition to nettle tea, spring is the time to drink more water each day. You can also make your own juice from new nettle leaves mixed it with a little water. Before you start to drink nettle tea or juice talk to your doctor first to avoid any allergic reactions, and be warned nettle can interact with several over-the-counter medications! You can also try dandelion tea, as dandelion has a lot of health benefits as well for the detoxification of your body, but again, speak to your doctor first to know if it is an appropriate for your personal situation.
Spring is a season with a lot of weather changes. When the wind kicks up, as we need to stay bundled up, we need to protect ourselves from the cold wind that brings colds, flu, allergies. It is a good practice to wear several layers of clothing, layers that can be added or removed to regulate the body's temperature. A light scarf and windbreaker are essential for unpredictable spring weather. The internal body is still weak and has trouble resisting these temperature swings, so it is good to continue to eat warm soups and warm foods, with the addition of fresh green spring salads. When this cold wind gets inside of your body it can cause problems like ringing in the ears, dizziness, headaches, even muscle spasms. There are some foods which can reduce the effects of the wind, for example ginger, pine nuts, fennel, basil, sesame seeds, celery and later in the season you can add strawberries, peppermint or sage to your diet.
Your inner spring cleansing can include the releasing of emotions that no longer serve you, especially those rooted in anger and frustration. This negative energy is trapped within you, during the winter it kept collecting and building, taking more and more of your energy. That's why you may experience fatigue in the spring. If you will not do anything about that when summer comes you will feel exhausted and unhappy.
Spring is the time to make positive steps toward change.
Go slowly with the spring change, don't go against it. Be sure you have enough sleep and a healthy diet. Take slow gentle deep breaths and smile. Practice meditation daily, take time to calm down and to feel peaceful. When you feel angry, anxious, or frustrated, transform that negative energy into wisdom energy by letting go of anger and frustration by breathing slowly and deeply. Let go of negative energies that surround you, free your mind and make space for more joy in your life. Practice simple stretching exercises in the morning. Go outdoors as much as you can to release your stress by immersing yourself in the green landscape. Walking, jogging, bike riding, swimming, dancing, yoga, tai chi - the possibilities for you are endless! Spring offers the opportunity to do more physical outdoor activities, so get outside and enjoy yourself!
